Why do we procrastinate? A recent incident at home reminded me just how much fear is often behind it—and how unnecessary that fear often is.

For a long time, I’ve been hearing a vibrating noise coming from one of our taps. Our house is an old build and I dreaded the possibility of the noise being an issue in the pipes that would have required stripping walls open and so on.

And so… I procrastinated.

I knew I had to get onto it, but could not make myself call the plumber. There was always something else to do in the moment. “Oh, I’ll get to it tomorrow,” I’d say.

Then, on ANZAC Day, I was reminded of something that put my fears in sharp perspective.
